CBD and Professional Athletes
Hemp CBD has become a valuable medicine for athletic pain, specifically, CBD oils and CBD isolate. CBD can also be extracted from marijuana plants with some strains of cannabis being specifically bred to have high CBD content. Learn more about a new study concerning CBD and professional athletes below.
CBD and Professional Athletes – CBD For Concussion Study
Canopy Growth and NHL Players Association (NHLPA) are breaking many barriers with their cooperation in this study. The study is going to measure the impact of CBD on individuals who have either had multiple concussions or, experience post-concussion symptoms.
The researchers behind this study also believe that CBD (in combination with an NMDA), can reduce brain cell inflammation, headaches, nausea, and other concussion symptoms.
The NHL Player’s Association is certainly leading the way when it comes to protecting the well-being of their athletes, well after their last bodycheck.
Cannabis is hardly associated with high-performance athletes, but many, such as Ricky Williams, (ex-NFL player), are slowly eroding these stigmas.
“We see a lot of athletes who have chronic pain and have other problems related to repetitive brain trauma,” stated neurosurgeon and concussion expert Dr. Charles Tator in a recent news interview.
Dr. Tator continues, “It’s really rather sad when you see these giants of sport having to deal with terrible headaches and emotional issues as well — there’s quite a bit of anxiety and depression and PTSD in athletes that has gone unrecognized,”
Why Do Professional Athletes Use CBD?
Seemingly, many major sports leagues in North America (NHL, NFL, NBA, UFC) have turned a blind eye to the use of cannabis. This is because they have realized cannabis is harmless and allows their athletes to perform at the highest levels. A win-win scenario for owner’s and coaches who want the most from their athletes.
“Opioids are very effective in relieving pain, but the problem is they have this terrible side effect of causing addiction and dependence,”
Dr. Charles Tator
CBD For Concussion And Post-Concussion Symptoms
According to the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, “We are encouraged by the initial findings of this study, which provide persuasive and encouraging evidence that warrants the continuation of this research program,”….“We are just beginning to tap the potential healing power of medical cannabis and exploring its growing number of benefits.”
